I have had so many questions from people asking me how to cook fish or how to cook lamb. The most common question I get is–how do I cook healthy food that actually tastes good?
What’s a Healthy Cooking Class?
Time and time again I see people eating what they think is healthy food. This means boiled chicken and an equally unappealing and nutrient poor portion of boiled broccoli. Well, I talked about how boiling broccoli is the worst way to cook vegetables. But I haven’t always known about these cooking tips.
Why Its Important to Me?
About a decade ago, I was really sick. I was diagnosed with celiac disease. When I cut out gluten, I also lost the ability to walk into a store or restaurant and buy whatever I wanted without thinking. I had to re-learn what to eat and. Most importantly, I had to learn what food does to my body and how I can use food to benefit me.
Before learning this, I was given really poor advice from a nutritionist. She told me to eliminate everything out of my diet to identify which things were making me sick (besides gluten). She told me to go on a diet of chicken broth and green beans for 2 weeks. I became really sick. I didn’t know what I could eat or what would make me sick. This quickly developed into a very poor relationship with food, which lead to an incredibly unhealthy low weight.
The Reason?
I didn’t know what to cook, and I didn’t know how to cook.
Anytime I looked up a gluten-free recipe, it said the total time was over 1.5 hours.
When I searched for a cooking class near me, there was nothing involving healthy, allergy free meals. Usually, the cooking class near me involved making fish or pasta, both of which would make me very sick.
I felt isolated and really unsure of what to do!
What did I do – I learned to cook!
Combined, these events triggered a bit of depression and I hated food. It wasn’t until I switched my mindset to fuelling my body– not just eating- that I started to feel better. I switched my college major to food and meat science. These courses helped me understand how food interacts with my body and fuel me through marathons and other adventures. But, importantly, I could help teach.
Now, I wasn’t teaching a traditional cooking class. I was actually helping teach a BBQ science class. It was in doing this that I discovered a love of a few very important things. I rediscovered my love of food and sharing meals for people. I discovered my love of making healthy, wholesome, flavourful food. I discovered my love of teaching people how to cook wholesome and delicious meals that use natural, normal ingredients, without spending hours in the kitchen.
I loved cooking so much. I wanted to start a cooking class all about healthy, allergy free, natural, delicious meals!

This has been such a big passion for me. I realised that learning how cooking affects food and understanding exactly what cooking methods, spics, and cuts of meat impact your meal. So, I became obsessed with cooking; I love cooking because I understand it. Being in the kitchen is not a foreign place for me anymore.
My favorite part about cooking in my home is being able to feel safe eating the food (all my food is free of allergens), knowing there are no allergies present, and being able to nourish my family! When I have guests tell me that the food I serve them is “better than restaurant quality” it makes all the studies worth it. I especially enjoy when I teach people how to cook and they come back to me with a story of their dinner party where their guests are blown away by the level of flavour!

Come join me in my free webinar to learn how to optimise your cooking without spending hours in the kitchen! Cooking is an amazing gift. I know if can be difficult when you don’t understand how it works or how heat, spices, marinades, etc, impact cooking. It can be frustrating when you try your best at a recipe, only to have the food end up dry or flavourless. I was in this situation as well. I didn’t understand why I had to roast things for a longer time, or why some marinades make food tender while others can cause food to be tough or break apart!
Until I understood WHY I was doing things in the kitchen, I hated cooking. Not, I look forward to cooking-its one activity that gives me mental peace. Cooking at home also gives me a sense of value as well because I know I am making wholesome, healthy, flavourful meals for the people I love the most. I make the meals with my own hands and then I get to see the delight on my family and friends’ faces when they dig into their plate!
