What is cellular nutrition?
Think back to your fifth-grade biology class. Do you remember learning about cells and the building blocks for your body? If not, I’ll give you a gentle reminder! Your body is made of tiny molecules called cells. Every part of your body is made of these little engines. The behaviour and health of cells will literally determine how well your body functions. That is why cellular nutrition, or the nutrients your cells get from your diet, is so important. Food isn’t just “something to eat; something to keep you busy when you are bored; a reward for good behaviour…”
No. Food is fuel! I mean that on a scientific level! Every time you eat anything, it gets broken down into smaller particles for your cells to use. So, if you eat junk and nutrient poor food, you are fuelling yourself with junk and nutrient poor food – that’s not useful. But on the contrary, what if you are not eating enough? That means that your cells are struggling along, just simply trying to survive, using up what little food they get and rationing it out because the cells don’t know when they will get more fuel to use. And, if you are eating too much, your cells then have to store the excess food as fat. And if those excess calories are coming from foods that lack nutrients, you will still be low in energy and feeling lethargic, struggling to get through even the most basic tasks.
How nutrition can help you thrive!
Each of these scenarios leads to you being exhausted because your cells are exhausted. Long story short, good nutrition starts on the cellular level! You need to make sure you are getting nutrients, but also the correct nutrients, so you can fuel your body and thrive. Everyone always thinks that in order to get the body composition you want, you simply have to eat less food. Have you ever noticed that it doesn’t work? If you go on a diet for 14 days, you are likely restricting calories for 14 days, getting moody, irritable, and starving yourself which leads to more exhaustion, you end up giving up, overeating and then you’re back to square 1! Well, my friend, I want to share a very important “not so secret” tidbit of information: you don’t need to eat less food. You need to eat the RIGHT food!
Why we need to focus on nutrition
Over the past 100 years, there has been a drastic change in how we process food and how we eat. Everything, including how we eat, seems more automated, full of distractions, and highly processed. Thank goodness our bodies are good at adapting! Our cells do everything they can to adapt to its environment: if they don’t, they will die. So they have adapted to a nutrient poor, calorie rich diet. The major problem is that, while our cells adapt, they can’t just magically make the nutrients our bodies need out of nothing. Instead, they just use what they can and try to squeak by!
The idea of cellular nutrition is one I like to use because it just makes sense to me! Having the right balance of vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats, and carbohydrates on the cellular level will help boost your metabolism, cell growth and repair, and overall health! But you can’t expect to reach your goals if you don’t fuel your cells in the proper way. Everything needs balance, including our cells.
Start your cellular nutrition right each day!
That’s why each day I START my day with a healthy breakfast, ensuring that I focus on cellular nutrition and ultimately, nourish my body. My breakfast each day sets me up for whatever the day has in store! And, the best part is that it is so easy to make, loaded with nutrients, tastes delicious, and because its gluten, dairy, and soy free, I know it is a safe option for me and one less meal I have to worry about during the day!
Because I know its a safe meal for me to eat (thanks to all my super fun allergies!) I have so much confidence at breakfast, knowing I’m fueling my body with what it needs. Its just one less meal i have to worry about! That means that I don’t have the stress of deciding on another meal idea which lets me focus my energy on all that the day offers!
