Spoiler alert, you don’t need to eliminate the foods you love to have a healthy gut! Moderation is key of course. Learning how to have a healthy gut is easier than you might think and tastes delicious!
Why having a healthy gut is important!
Did you know that 40% of adults suffer from digestive health issues?
If you are like me, you might have a few food allergies or food restrictions (thanks to celiac disease)! Maybe you have a strained relationship with food.
Maybe you find yourself craving unhealthy foods. You know, that bag of potato chips or that chocolate bar? Maybe you feel bloated or have tummy trouble after eating certain foods. Maybe you even have those unwelcome issues in the bathroom (that’s right… I went there!).
These descriptions fit who I was about 10 years ago! Who knew all I needed was to tweak my diet just a little, to boost the health of my gut and my overall life?
How to Jump Start a Healthy Gut
Don’t give in to those cravings. Don’t give in to those food thoughts. Sometimes, the best and easiest thing to do is to focus on your gut and, primarily, the health of your gut! Having a healthy gut is often the driving force to keep you energized, able to absorb all the nutrients from your food, have glowing skin, kick the cravings, and keep yourself regular.
Learning how to have a healthy gut doesn’t mean that you need to eliminate all “nasty food” or have a super stick eating regime. Having a healthy gut is much easier.
Trust me, in the past, I tried everything to boost my gut health and help ease some of my stomach pains. I tried everything:
- Apple cider vinegar
- probiotics
- Prebiotics
- Supplements
- all of them combined
Nothing worked! A lot of times it made everything worse or just did nothing! I was so frustrated because I just wanted to feel better. I wanted to go through without having stomach pain! Then I had a friend tell me that maybe some of my tummy troubles were coming from issues in my gut.
What makes a Healthy Gut?
With celiac disease or after having a diet for decades that involves mainly processed foods and take out, our guts are affected really negatively. The ability for our gut to absorb nutrients is limited.
Our gut has a lining throughout that is made of finger-like projections called villi. Basically, the purpose of the villi is to line to gut and increase the surface area of the gut. Increased surface area means a greater chance for our gut to absorb more nutrients (YAY!).
When our gut is bombarded with processed (meaning chemicals that our body shouldn’t be absorbing), packaged, and unnatural foods or gluten with celiac, those finger-like projections are damaged or stunted. This damage means you are not getting the most nutrients out of your food because you physically can’t when your gut is not healthy.
How Aloe Vera can give you a Healthy Gut!
I found a pretty simple solution. It’s the power of aloe vera. Not just any aloe vera–aloe vera designed to help heal your gut, boost nutrient absorption, and get you back on track with a healthy gut and a healthy lifestyle!
Aloe has been used for centuries for skin, medicinal purposes including stomach aches and pains. Ancient Egyptians used aloe to treat skin wounds and even burns! But it also acts to heal and repair your intestinal tract if used correctly! When your gut and intestinal tract are repaired, you can absorb more nutrients and vitamins plus it keeps you regular. Just don’t eat the whole leaf, that could be toxic!
On top of all those benefits, aloe vera is also rich in vitamins and antioxidants, which can help with chronic diseases. Aloe even helps enhance the body’s ability to absorb vitamins, especially vitamin C, boosting your immune system, and vitamin E, enhancing the health of your brain and skin. Aloe vera is liquid gold and is rich in:
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin A
- Vitamin E
- Beta carotene
- Folic Acid
- Calcium
- Magnesium
How to use Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is like liquid gold! It has so many uses and because of the uses and being a natural product, its worth so much! I always like to add a bit of aloe vera to my water every day. The flavour (my favourite is mango!) keeps it exciting but also, the benefits of aloe make it so worthwhile.
I use a very specific aloe vera concentrate, add a bit to my water each morning and mix it with my tea mix, and create a flavourful drink that keeps me hydrated and maintains a healthy gut. We call it Boom Juice around here!
